unbelievable piece!! Again, how rare a talent these days; to write with such color, grace and sophistication without resorting to tricky verbal maneuvering and misdirection for its own sake.
Looking to the end of my contract as well, what you mention about the military careerist is true - I think a big part of why many stay is it is the devil they know, despite the constant onslaught of what is military life. But now I’m saddled with the question too - what next?? Actually being happy.
If you are this lyrical when sober, what might you have written when high? Not that I recommend it. You bring color back from the darkness as if you're invoking the spirit of David in pouring out his heart's travail during his riotous life. At my own stack, my editor (my wonderful wife) pounds into me the need for short sentences. I'm reading you because I'm better nourished, and challenged, by the longer sentences in which you often indulge. Keep writing!
"in him, the dream of human freedom is secure and on display to all as a symbol of hope"
This is why I read everything you publish on here.
This is so beautiful! I am looking forward to being at your side as you perfect the comma!!
