A device I take when I travel, through airports or any bars... is a TVbegone.
It turns off all the TVs in about 60 feet.
Many times forever.
I turned off all the continually blaring TVs in the Denver airport back in 2018 and they were still off two weeks later. I realised they had lost or thrown away the remotes... at the TVs were supposed to be perpetually on CNN forever.
From what you write... I think you would like a TVbegone. Get people talking?
Wow. First off congratz. Many parts of this and your work resonate, perhaps beyond what I can convey in a comment. Especially the part about the challenges to find a partner in this strange age. I am happy you all found each other! In seeing this I feel more hopeful myself!
Technology affects us in strange ways, and more beautiful and productive ways than not if engaged with properly. I have recently been pondering and pontificating on this balance.. And I have been training my discernment and intentions to direct my interactions with the Cyberworld to be positive and abundant, instead of distractive and draining.
Thank you for the great pieces! Keep up the good work!
Beautiful as always. The way you describe your wife is so tender and sweet.
Also the descriptions of the different online caricatures and how they are all just “formulating correct answers.” It pulled me in as a reader who finds herself on the outside of all of these factions. It felt relatable and also something that you really put into words perfectly.
Congratulations, I look forward to keeping up with your journey.
Wonderful! Congrats! I just got married too. It's lovely, a springtime indeed.
If you make it out to western Canada I would be happy to host you on our 1600 people strong little Gulf island. Nowhere like it really, if you are looking for quaint community and natural beauty!
Fairview, UT. Sanpete County Utah generally is one of the more interesting places in this country. The geology alone is sufficient to draw someone there: it is basically where the Colorado Plateau, Wasatch Range, and the basin-and-range series going West into Nevada meet. One of a kind place
What a wonderful letter! A heartfelt journey. There’s only this moment.
You got me thinking of towns under 5000 that I would want to visit again.
One sprang to mind… a very unique little town tucked away in another world. A town that I would be very curious to know more about. So here’s a suggestion: Etna California.
Thanks brother! Yeah we're staying flexible on plans, but it's looking like Montreal --> Quebec City --> Gaspe --> Halifax --> and then from there either heading to Newfoundland to take pedestrian ferries across the south coast (9 ferries in all) or to catch a 4hr flight to Reykjavik, hitch to Seydisfjordur and take the ferry to the Faroe Islands. OR from Gaspe to ferry across the St Lawrence River and go ferry to ferry on Cote-Du-Nord to Blanc Sablon.
I think we just like ferries! Something about a honeymoon makes me want to be on as many ferries as possible..
I hope that you find your rest, and in each other, a place you cannot leave.
Congratulations on your marriage. I like the telling of this story. You have a beautiful writing style.
Congrats ! I cant wait to hear what you see.

Congratulations—I look forward to following your work, and please let me know if you ever choose to come to Western or Northern Michigan.

“Technology is not, as some decidedly milquetoast commentators have perennially offered, ‘neutral’ — it is instead an amplifier of human will.”
I like this…technology is ’an amplifier of human will’! It is so true! And we have a choice how we use such technology– love or fear.
Congratulations to you both for choosing LOVE!!💗

I hope you come to California for one of your 12 towns! Would love to hear you write about that.
I also would recommend west Texas.
Huge congrats!! 🍾🎊🎈 Thanks for sharing and reminding us of the unexpected good that arises in the strangest of places (Twitter?!)
I am excited for you! So much good food in Quebec, and the Maritimes in the summer have got to be stunning.

That ferry to the Faroe Islands has been on your radar since at least 2022. You may have still had a dumb phone when you first pointed it out.
Are you from Madawaska Maine? Here now? We moved to Northern Maine from Oregon 8 years ago and have fallen in love with the area.
