Listened to this while road tripping with the family south to Florida in one of those damned automobiles you have decided to live without yet may as well have been the cornerstone to the foundation of your new home.
Life is full of chaos and contradictions, and crossroads where a trucker like me meets a former vagabond like you.
Can’t wait to meet the baby and bring my tools so as to help with the sagging beams. I think it only fitting that a member of the tribe who carried you across the land so often would reenforce your home.
Brother, I don't always grin ear-to-ear when I read a comment on here, but I'm smiling thinking of that. Truckers don't just bring you everything you eat, wear, and use -- they also pick your ass up in the desert when you're out of water and they'll fix your house up too. There's something so completely Christian about the old-school trucker mentality... if there's a literary equivalent to being a trucker, I hope I get there... God bless you Gord and have fun down in the land of sunshine... Looking forward to showing you the new place!
The Abrahamic wanderings are over, you have entered your promised land. Now the settling in and filling the earth begins. May God bless you with fertility of mind, soul, earth and family life.
You are definitely verbose and quirky and entertaining! I subscribed at the start of your project because it sounded interesting and have been fascinated to watch your story unfold. Reading your writing I feel like I’m reading Abraham Lincoln or Hemingway.
You clearly have many more stories in your head to share. Thank you.
I envision just showing up one day on your front porch after having arrived in your hamlet square and asking about the old hermit and his wife and their brood.
Visiting the grandparents at Lake George is experiential, however real life doesn't require extravagance and pillaging of Natural Resources.
Someday perhaps some of my offspring can meet some of yours.
Thank you for sharing this adventure. And please tell your wife I'm looking forward to reading about the adventures of her grandfather.
Finished this post smiling. I was one of the culprit paid-subscribers that had expressed some unfulfilled expectation when you asked for feedback a bit ago. With expectations now filled to overflowing, I continue looking forward to you just being your unique writing self. Your 1-year journey has increased our understanding of what “loving America” means, and has also focused your own values within that framework.
You and Keturah continue to be a very transparent embodiment of love for the American dream, like the pioneers of long ago. Your discoveries and male and female observations are raw and in Substack real time vs. historical fiction. They help us grasp just how that spirit takes us forward in this age of overwhelming technological and socio-political change. Keep the polite company and conversation going. You’ve got this and God has got you and your community of fellow pioneers in the palm of His hand.
I think you may be the literary reincarnation of a Hunter S Thompson and Samuel Clemens lovechild. God bless you and your family and please keep exploring this land right there from your home. Every story I want to hear is already in your head.

This is what I’m talking about! (In my head of course). This gives me a renewed hope in the HH at a time when it was waning.
